Basic Safety Tips

Detecting smoke in your home

  • Install smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors throughout your house
  • If you already have them installed, test them regulary throughout the year
  • The smell of smoke in your home could indicate that your wood stove or fireplace is not burning efficiently

Burning Wood

  • Burning sea driftwood, plywood, or any wood with in glue in it releases toxic chemicals when burned and this can harm the environment
  • Never burn wet, rotted, diseased or mouldy wood as they don’t burn sufficiently
